DuC City

Interactive Website

Expo 2010

Shanghai

Under the patronage of the president of the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler, the initiative „Germany and China – Moving Together“ instituted in 2010 at the Expo in Shanghai the „German Chinese House“ as the perhaps so far greatest exposition of Germany in a foreign country.

Inside the pavilion visitors could create their individual house complexes by means of concerted movements in an interactive shadow play developed at RWTH Aachen. The website generated for that purpose not only recorded each individual event in terms of a parametrically represented house generated by the person’ shadow image, but enables in the course of the Expo also the becoming of a huge virtual pixel city – the „DuC City“.
